Gillian Vellet works in dual practice

Gillian Vellet, is a registered Art Psychotherapist (RCAT) &

Counsellor, & registered Massage therapist (RMT)

Gillian graduated from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute in 1998 and registered as an Art Psychotherapist. She then returned to live and work in private practice for 8 years in South Africa.  During this time she qualified and then facilitated Biodanza - a community building dance movement process (DSABA) from 2003-2005.  In 2005 Gillian heeded the call of spirit to return home to Canada and reconnect with her ancestral heritage.  From 2006-2008 Gillian trained in Massage Therapy at Medix School, London, ON, Canada.  In 2007 Gillian facilitated an EARTHWORKS Workshop in Lethbridge, Alberta for the Alberta Play Therapy Association.

In Oct 2008 Gillian registered as a RMT with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO); and started working in dual practice as a RMT and registered Art Psychotherapist (RCAT), at Wortley Wellness Center, London, ON.  In June 2009 she re-registered with the College of Massage Therapist of BC (CMTBC).  Gillian wanted to explore the west coast of Canada so moved to Duquette Strength Clinic, Langley, BC, which amalgamated becoming Lang Health & Vitality Centre in January 2010.  In October 2009-June 2010 she worked in 2 clinics commuting between Langley and Vancouver.  In Vancouver she worked at Balance Health Clinic, alongside 3 Naturopathic doctors; and established her own small clinic called Earthworks.

After working in multi-disciplinary clinics in BC and a short stay in Montreal, Gillian returned to London, ON, in Dec, 2011, for family reasons.  In Jan 2011 she started working collaboratively with 3 physiotherapist at NeuPhysio Rehabilitation in the area of traumatic brain injury.

In July 2011 Gillian is rejoining her trusted and supportive RMT colleague and clinic owner Ursula Prelog, at the multi-disciplinary clinic Wortley Wellness Centre, London, ON.  She will be working in dual practice, which is her passion; and represents her long journey of exploration into the diversity of holistic practices which exist witihin health care.  This feels like a home-coming - full circle/cycle of growth to contribute her dual practice in a collaborative, creative, and integrative way.

Gillian's RMT interweaves Swedish massage, Trigger point therapy, Myofascial release, Active Inhibition technique, Cranio-Sacral therapy, Lymphatic drainage, Hydrotherapy, Somato-sensory release, and Viceral Manipulation.

Gillian's 5 year RMT experience entails: working with athletes, gymnasts, dancers, martial artists, and runners giving sports massage.  Also she facilitates gentle somato-sensory release for clients with digestive intestinal problems, post-traumatic stress, lymphatic congestion, hypersensitivity, emotional eating disorders, fibrositic breasts, pre & post pregnancy, and women's health issues.

Gillian's dual practice of Massage therapy works effectively in conjunction with separate sessions in Art psychotherapy which explore "pain" and associated psychosomatic feelings in the body

The benefits of this dual practice is that Art psychotherapy creatively explores "pain" and associated psychosomatic feelings in the body, cells, organs, and viscera, which may underlie deeper emotional, psychological, neurological, and interpersonal issues.  The client creates an art image which safely maps and represents emotional and traumatic affect stored in the limbic brain.

Over time the art making imagery process repeats sequences of neuronal firing which create new neurological pathways of health integrating visual-perceptual-sensory-affective-empathetic-motor capacity.  The creative process fundamentally represents a life-sustaining and evolving process of change.

Gillian's dual practice as both a RMT and RCAT supports gentle and safe somato-sensory release, self-regulation, harmonization of the nervous system, postural reprogramming, strength building, flexibility, embodiment, authentic and expressive movement.  Also awareness of the relationship between tissue health, nutrition, diet, breathing, self-care, stillness, peace,  stress-reduction, and pain relief.  Gillian's holistic facilitation values the integration of body, mind, spirit and soul as a movement beyond fear, separation, disconnection and grief into a fully embodied creative potential.

Gillian offers free half hour demonstrations for the dual practice component of Art Psychotherapy to see if a creative learning process resonates with you.  If you want holistic, integrated, and creative change in your life, relationships, and health email Gillian to discuss questions, concerns, goals, and outcomes; or to book an appointment for RMT and/or Art Psychotherapy.
